08-31 Yardley Gobion on the Grand Union

Sunday 30th August:  We walked back to the aqueduct this morning to find the site of the old locks used before the aqueduct was built. 

These old wooden gates lying in the undergrowth could have last been used in 1811 - the site containing a mock lock using old BW steel gates.

We then made ready and set off up Cosgrove lock to the services (rather a delay getting into the lock as two Wyvern boats with Swedish crews turned below the lock) and whilst watering up Bridie dived into the Park Stores for a quick shop. Onwards but not too far as the weather looks decidedly iffy!  We found a rather nice mooring between bridges 62 and 63 with a view across the valley with the River Tove not far away across the field with a path heading towards the spire of the church at Haslope some distance away.  Unfortunately the rain precluded any exploration.

Monday 31st August (Bank Holiday):  A miserable wet day all day.  Lit the fire and stayed put watching the weekenders ploughing past in their waterproofs and only venturing out to exercise the dogs when necessary.
