Thursday 20th August: Moved on down another 7 locks today (on our own again and we would have had to wait a long time for another boat going in the same direction). We moored just before Church Lock, somewhat out in the channel, although we managed to get the bow in to get dogs on and off. All the pounds in this stretch appear to be very short of water and every one is complaining. Having said that we have hardly seen anyone on the move either and given that we usually think of August being a very busy month on the canals we have not queued for a lock yet.
When we moored we spent about half an hour rescuing a small cruiser "Merlin" that had lost a mooring pin (if it ever had one) I fished with magnet and found a rather bent old thing that I used to secure it. Day started with some promise and sunshine but by the time we were moored up it was rather grey and depressing again (no chairs out on the towpath tonight).
