Wednesday 1st July: Cruised together with nb Greyfisher up the remaining locks to Godalming. Greyfisher turned at the wharf and did some amazing reversing up river round a loaded barge and a bend in the river.
We were trying to follow when the hotel boat moored at the winding hole on the wharf indicated they were leaving so we aborted and moved onto their mooring as soon as they left.
After lunch we went with David to the station
where he caught a train on his way to Reading. So hot today could burn yourself on the metalwork and Mac was very distressed on the walk to the station.
Managed to cool him and Mabel with water from the toilets and then got them both to bath in the river on the way back to the wharf where we had moored PO. I dived into Sainsburies for ice cream and a bottle of chilled white wine to cool us off!
Thursday 2nd July: Another scorcher, possibly warmer than yesterday at times but a bit of a shower cooled us down in the morning so Bridie and I did a shop in Sainsburies and we stayed put, and chilled out. Enough of a breeze later on for Bridie and I to take a walk into Godalming and leave dogs on board for a while, possibly cooler on board with curtains shut and windows open. Bridie had her hair done near here
and I returned to the dogs. We took them for a walk across Town bridge and down the towpath early evening having a view of PO from the towpath side of the river.
and on our return we had a very entertaining time with canoeing activity around the wharf. Decided today that we will not venture onto the Basingstoke canal. Read the documentation that nb Greyfisher had already acquired to find that the low bridges are as low as 5' 9" and we only had about 2" to spare under Broadford bridge yesterday which is given as 6' 4". To achieve this clearance we would not only have to remove everything from the roof but also dismantle the cratch including A frame which I think would not survive being dismantled! Even then it would be touch and go as to how near the front mushroom might be to scraping the bridge.
